Q: How did this comic come to being?
A: This is a comic rewriting of one of my old story, originally named The Race of the Future. Of course, it's not completely finished up to this day (mostly for lack of time), but lines of the story was enough well drawn, so I wasn't sure to give it up forever. After experiences with publishing books seemed better for me to publish stories on the net as serials. But then I would lock it in czech, because I have no chance to translate over 300 pages to english. And I want to make everything available for everybody! When I started to draw my webcomics Dragon Heroes and Asheron, I got an idea that would be nice to make a webcomic from this story too. It would be even easier to translation. So it came true.
Q: But why sci-fi, after all those fantasy? Why robots?
A: Certainly, that wasn't a haphazard. My brother, older by a year and half than me, is interested in electronics and electrotechnics and makes audio technic, metal and other detectors, robots etc. (Yeah, Raymond is a little bit inspired by him, but my brother is VERY tall (2 meters), unlike Ray XD.) I started to be interested in it too, especially once when he was making radio cotrol models. Then I got an idea, that would be cool to make a robot who can think. Of course, my brother hasn't any material to make an intelligent robot which you see in films, so I only imagined what could happen when I take it to the school etc. :) I'm sure it would be great, because the robot isn't as demoralized as people. I like that idea of a stranger in the civilization, who reveals all again since the beginning and gets to know good and bad sides of people. Later I developed this idea in my book Froddy - the Friend from the Primeval. Even this comic has this undermeaning. :) I wanted to think up my own imaginary cybernetic friend, from whom after many and many changes Faethron came to being. By the way, the primary version of Faethron's design was inspired by No.5 and afterwards by czech fire robot Brouček I. Faethron's new design maybe still a little bit resembles them, but otherwise they haven't got anything in common.
Q: What does it have to be about?
A: Comic tells the story of extremely inteligent recluse boy Raymond and his self-made friend, robot Faethron, who is as intelligent as his creator. One day they get to know that army proclaim a competition, a race of autonomous vehicles, which could complete a difficult desert course of approximately 200km in under 10 hours absolutely independently without any help from outside (inspired by 1st volume of DARPA's Grand Challenge). The winner gets 1.000.000 $ and the army will buy from him a patent of the vehicle for military purposes (like Grand Challenge). Raymond doesn't want any money or patent (he lives in very wealthy family). The competition is a great challenge for him and he and Faethron decide to make a vehicle that could compete. How it will end what all will happen during it, you find in the comic.
Q: Hm, and that's all, just some stupid race? This is in every film!
A: Oh, of course, that's not half the end! >:] The race is just an introduction. This army's competition starts a lot of events, which get the world eminently moving (for the worse) and Raymond with his robots are obliged to make everything right. Now starts a large whirligig of dangerous adventures, in which Ray is fallen in under pressure and he can't get out from it without his ideas and inventions, but even without help of his peers which he hated and scorned until then. By virtue of these events he learns many new things and understands there aren't only computers, machines and hating people on the world.
Q: And what do you have forever with that rescuing the world? Dragon Heroes save the world, here is world saving even in the title, Asheron looks he'll have too... and I just didn't talk about films and books - isn't it kinda annoying?
A: Eeeeh... yeaaah... it is. :) But in MY comics aren't killed any extraterrestrials or something like that. Here is the matter of courage and wit. Of course, it is action, sometimes too much >;] And that about saving the word... ehm, what else today? Maybe I earlier wrote stories about searching for treasures and capture of criminals, but I already grew out of it. This is too little fish to prepaire the pan (web), isn't it?
Q: Can I link to Save the World?
A: Of course, I'd appreciate it! In the section Links there are free banners. You can use them as you wish.
Q: What do you draw with?
A: I sketch usually with paper and mechanical pencil, for everything other I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 and Wacom Graphire Tablet.
Q: Can I draw pictures of your characters?
A: Oh, of course! If you draw something from this comic and would like to publish it, just send it in jpg format to my mailbox fanart@fanyart.net (please only pictures sized not over 1 MB). I like to present your pictures on this site! Just draw!
Q: That yooour FAQ is tooo way loong. When it's gonna end?
A: Yeah, just now. :) But if you are interested something more general, you can have a look at Asheron's FAQ or Dragon Heroes' FAQ.
